Aaron Scantlin
Computer Systems Engineer 3
National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC)
Data Center Dept.
Cyber Security Group
Aaron has been a practicing security professional for close to ten years supporting education and research networks. As NERSC's resident "Zeek Geek", Aaron's primary responsibility as a Cybersecurity Engineer sees him ensuring that open science remains as open as possible while still keeping network-based ne'er-do-wells at bay. Of course, research security threats don't stop at anybody's network border; to that end, Aaron can often be found interfacing with other teams throughout NERSC to ensure collaborative science workflows both within and outside the Lab's network maintain a stalwart security posture. Aaron's passion for security doesn't stay at the Lab - he is an active member of SecKC, one of the country's largest monthy information security meetups, and has given talks at a wide range of conferences across the globe. He is also a volunteer at DEFCON, the world's largest (and arguably most famous) annual hacking conference, where he can be found helping facilitate any activity that could benefit from his boistrous, helpful personality.
