How to Acknowledge NERSC in Your Publications

When you publish research facilitated by NERSC, in whole or in part, please acknowledge the role our center played.

Acknowledgment in published research results helps NERSC communicate the importance of its role in science to its funding agency and helps assure the continued availability of this valuable resource.

Wording tips

A sample acknowledgment follows:

This research used resources of the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), a Department of Energy User Facility using NERSC award [ABC]-ERCAP [12345].

Replace [ABC] with the appropriate acronym for the origin of your award:

  • ASCR, BER, BES, FES, HEP, or NP, for Office of Science programs
  • ALCC for Leadership Computing Challenge Awards
  • DDR for awards made through the NERSC Director’s Discretionary Reserve, which includes select education and exploratory projects, as well as all special programs, such as QIS@Perlmutter.

Replace [12345] with the ERCAP request number for your award.

If you do not know the ERCAP request ID number, you can look it up (requires login) in Iris, NERSC’s account management portal. You may also use the project identifier and year (e.g., m306-2024).

The bare essentials

You may use a variation on this theme, calling out portions of the research that used NERSC resources or even citing the system used. However, the crucial elements are

  • The spelled-out center name (you can use the acronym if needed): National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), and
  • U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science User Facility.

Publishing a paper of note? Let us know.

We encourage you to contact our communications staff, preferably before you publish a paper of note. We are always on the lookout for science stories and highlights that showcase our users’ breakthrough science.
