Storage
In addition to HPC resources, NERSC supports researchers with petabytes of data storage for all phases of the research cycle.

NERSC stores hundreds of petabytes of scientific data in its modern, tape-based Archive system.
Archive HPSS
NERSC’s Archive system is a modern, flexible, tape-based high-performance storage system (HPSS) with a large front-end disk-based cache built for long-term, large-capacity storage. As of late 2023, Archive held 257 million files comprising 380 Petabytes (PB) of user data and had a capacity of about 650 PB.

As of late 2023

The Community File System provides 120 petabytes of disk storage for researchers.
Community File System
The Community File System (CFS) is a disk-based global file system available on all NERSC computational systems. It allows data sharing between users, systems, and the outside world. This IBM Storage Scale (GPFS) system was designed as a capacity storage system and holds 88 PB of user data with a capacity of approximately 120 PB.
