New Functionality: Set a Preferred Name in Iris

Does the name you go by differ from your legal name? Perhaps you answer to a shortened form of your name (e.g., Catherine “Cate” Blanchett). You may be known by your middle name (like Nimrata “Nikki” Haley) or initials (like James David “JD” Vance), or nickname (like Orlando “Tubby” Smith). Maybe your legal name is totally different from what people call you (like Stefani “Lady Gaga” Germanotta).

No matter which applies, you can now update your name in NERSC's account management portal, Iris, to match. (We still require your legal name for user vetting purposes.)

How to update your name

Log in to Iris, and click on your “Profile” tab. Edit your preferred and legal names and then click “Update” on the side. (Please see the documentation on this feature for more information.)

After you hit “Update,” the name updates immediately in the Iris database and appears on the webpage on reload or refresh. It also propagates to the NERSC help desk when you next log in there (you can log out and log back in to force the change).
