Starting July 31, 2025, NERSC will no longer automatically back up users’ home directories into the HPSS archival storage system. However, NERSC will continue to provide seven days of snapshots to protect against files being accidentally deleted. Our technical documentation explains how to retrieve files from snapshots.
Historically, NERSC has provided users with automatic backup of home directories as a courtesy. However, all NERSC users should regularly back up important files and retain at least one copy of critical data stored outside of NERSC. Ultimately, users are responsible for protecting themselves from data loss.
