Do you have ideas to make scientific software more effective, more efficient, or more user-friendly? Apply for the 2026 Better Scientific Software (BSSw) Fellowship program, an opportunity to receive funding and recognition for your efforts as you serve the scientific community.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation, the BSSw Fellowship fosters and promotes practices, processes, and tools to improve developer productivity and software sustainability of scientific codes.

As part of their applications, prospective BSSw Fellows propose a funded activity, up to $25,000, that promotes better scientific software.

The fellowship seeks applicants at all career stages, from students to senior professionals, and all backgrounds who are studying or working in a U.S.-based institution able to receive federal funding.

The fellowship is hosting a Q&A webinar on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. For more details, please subscribe to the BSSw Fellowships mailing list.

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2025, midnight Pacific Time.
