National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC)

Hai Ah is the High Performance Computing (HPC) Technology Department head and NERSC-10 Project Director. Hai Ah's research interests include emerging technologies for the high performance computing ecosystem, the science needs driving requirements, and the substantial interdisciplinary effort to bring technologies from design to production readiness. Her scientific career spans four DOE national laboratories (LLNL, ORNL, LANL, LBNL), where she contributed to work in low-energy nuclear physics, computational physics, high performance computing, and research scientific software to impact NNSA mission-focused advanced simulation and computing (ASC) projects and scientific discovery-focused Office of Science projects. While at LANL, Hai Ah led the Advanced Technology Systems Center of Excellence efforts and supported multi-physics codes to run efficiently on these systems. At LBNL, she was a staff member of the Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), specializing in high performance computing, benchmarking, and performance analysis. Hai Ah earned a Ph.D. in Computational Science from Claremont Graduate University and San Diego State University, an M.S. in Physics from Carnegie Mellon University, and a B.A. in Physics from Scripps College.
