NERSC Presents First Intel Xeon Phi KNL Performance Results

NERSC staff presented the first results of running applications on the Intel Xeon Phi KNL architecture. KNL will form the basis of NERSC's new Cori supercomputer, which will have 9,300 KNL nodes in a Cray XC40 system. Cori KNL hardware will arrive at NERSC this summer.

Cori Phase II Preparations

We expect the first cabinets of Cori Phase II to arrive in CRT/Wang Hall on the LBL campus in July. NERSC personnel will immediately get to work on bringing the machine into production. Before the machine can be released to the NERSC user community, a number of tasks must be completed, some of which will have a direct impact on NERSC users. We've created the Cori Phase II Schedule page to keep users updated on the progress.

New Webinar Series on Best Practices for HPC Software Developers

A new webinar series aimed at developers of software on HPC systems begins on May 4, 2016. These webinars, which are a collaboration between the IDEAS scientific software productivity project, NERSC, ALCF, and OLCF, will present best practices that will help users of HPC systems carry out their software development more productively.

The first webinar, entitled "What All Codes Should Do" and presented by ANL's Anshu Dubey, will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 1:00 pm Eastern time (10 am Pacific).

Allocation Adjustment Schedule for 2016

It is NERSC policy that MPP (computational) repositories that haven't used significant amounts of time are adjusted at certain times of the year by transferring a portion of the unused balance to the corresponding DOE Office reserve. In past years this has been done on a quarterly basis, but because of a few changes such as the new scavenger queues this year, we've changed the schedule. The key dates and adjustments follow:
