CS Chang to Speak on State of Fusion Research at NERSC

CS Chang is a fusion researcher at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and a longtime NERSC user.

NERSC was founded in 1974 to support nuclear fusion research, and on June 24, the NERSC@50 seminar series returns to those roots as Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory researcher CS Chang presents on his work and the state of fusion research at NERSC. In addition to being a longtime NERSC user, CS Chang is the lead PI of the multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary US SciDAC Partnership Center for High-fidelity Boundary Plasma Simulation, headquartered at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL). He is also the co-lead PI of the US Exascale Computing Project Whole-Device Modeling Application and the PPPL PI of the ECP Co-Design of Particle Applications. He holds the position of Managing Principal Research Physicist at PPPL and is a Sits-with-Committee member of the Princeton Institute for Computational Science and Engineering.

Chang is currently engaged in extreme-scale supercomputing research activities, including exascale computing, on multiscale turbulent self-organization and transport physics in magnetically confined plasma. He has served on numerous national and international advisory and executive committees and headed the US DOE Office of Fusion Energy and Science and Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research Exascale Requirement Review and Report.
