Margie Wylie
Biographical Sketch
Margie Wylie became NERSC’s web lead in June 2023. Before that, she was the web coordinator for the Computing Sciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab).
Before joining Berkeley Lab in 2010, Wylie was a journalist. She was a national correspondent for science and technology for a Washington, DC-based wire service specializing in enterprise reporting. She has also been an assistant business editor for technology at the San Jose Mercury News, op-ed editor at CNET’s News.com, managing editor for Digital Media: A Seybold Report, and a reporter and editor at several other technology news outlets and magazines. Between her journalism career and Berkeley Lab, Wylie worked for a San Francisco marketing agency, primarily with high-tech clients.
Her work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, and many other magazines, newspapers, and online outlets. She has also contributed commentary to broadcast news programs, photographed people and events for publication, and produced video shorts.
A reckless wielder of vintage film cameras, her favorites include a Nikon FM2n, an Agfa Ambi Sillette medium format range-finder, and a Soviet-era Lubitel Lomo medium-format twin-lens reflex. She also enjoys the textile arts, including knitting and sewing. She volunteers at SCRAP San Francisco, a non-profit arts education and creative reuse center, and serves as co-chair for the Digital Accessibility Committee of the All Access employee resource group.
