How Installing the Online Documentation Alters Your System

The online documentation is composed of the following filesets:

• ppe.html: contains the PE documentation in HTML format
• ppe.man: contains the PE man pages, which IBM formerly shipped in the ppe.pedocs and ppe.poe filesets
• ppe.pdf: contains the PE documentation in PDF format

These filesets completely replace the contents of the ppe.pedocs fileset that existed in earlier versions of PE.

Installing these filesetsStep 2: Performing the Initial Installation creates the directories and files detailed in the following tables.

When you migrate from earlier versions of the ppe.pedocs fileset, the files previously installed are removed. The fileset is changed to an OBSOLETE state in the SWVPD and ODM.

Installing the HTML files (ppe.html)

The ppe.html fileset includes HTML files that contain online versions of the PE publications. Once you have installed the ppe.html fileset, you can find the PE HTML publications at /usr/lpp/ppe.html. Because other parts of PE link to the HTML publications, you should not move these files from the /usr/lpp/ppe.html directory.

A sample index file, /usr/lpp/ppe.html/pebooks.html also exists. It shows you how to set up a single launching point from which users can access all of the online books.

Installing the man pages (ppe.man)

The ppe.man fileset includes files that contain the PE man pages. Once you have installed the ppe.man fileset, you can find the man pages in the appropriate path: /usr/man/cat1 or /usr/man/cat3.

Installing the PDF files (ppe.pdf)

The ppe.pdf fileset includes files that contain PDF versions of the PE publications. Once you have installed the ppe.pdf fileset, you can find the PDF files at /usr/lpp/ppe.pdf.
