Installation

Migration Installation

If you migrate from PE Version 1 or Version 2 to PE 3.2, installing the new filesets will completely replace some of the earlier release filesets, rendering them obsolete. The replaced filesets will be marked "OBSOLETE" in the object data manager (ODM) and lslpp by installp.

However, some directories and installation files will remain. Because these earlier filesets do not coexist or execute with PE 3.2, you should uninstall your old filesets before installing the new PE filesets, rather than installing the new filesets on top of the old. This will conserve disk space and reduce the chance for confusion over old fileset path names and executables.

Caution:
If you plan to uninstall the old filesets, do so before installing the new filesets. If you attempt to uninstall the old filesets after installing PE 3.2, you may accidentally delete some needed files.

The following table lists the old filesets that need to be removed before you install PE 3.2:

PE Version Filesets to be Removed
1 pedocs
poe
poe_pcf
vt
xpdbx

2 ppe.pedocs
ppe.vt
ppe.xpdbx

Determining Which Earlier Filesets Are Installed

You can use the lslpp command to check if any of the filesets mentioned previously are installed. For example, lslpp -l poe will tell you if the Version 1 POE fileset is installed.

Removing Earlier Filesets

To remove filesets you can use any of the following methods:

Removing ppe.vt and ppe.pedb

The ppe.vt and ppe.pedb filesets are not supported in PE 3.2 and existing installations should no longer use these filesets. You should remove these filesets because the PE 3.2 installation procedures do not automatically remove or mark them as obsolete, or prevent anyone from using them. To remove them, you can use either SMIT, installp, or the PEdeinstall or PEdeinstallSP scripts.
