Changes for GPFS 1.4

GPFS 1.4 provides:

• GPFS now provides the capability to operate not only in a SP environment building on the shared disk concepts of the IBM Virtual Shared Disk and IBM Recoverable Virtual Shared Disk components of the IBM Parallel System Support Programs for AIX (PSSP), but also in a GPFS cluster environment.

  In a GPFS cluster environment, GPFS provides the capability to share data across Serial Storage Architecture (SSA) shared disks or disk arrays directly attached to each node in the nodeset. The nodeset can consist of multiple RS/6000 machines or SP nodes running AIX Version 4 Release 3.3 (with APAR IY12051) and HACMP/ES Version 4 Release 4 (with PTF IY12984). The limitations of the SSA adapter constrain the size of nodesets to a maximum of 8 nodes.

  The mmcrcluster, mmchcluster, mmaddcluster, mmdelcluster, and mmlscluster commands have been added to support this new environment.

• Enhancements available in all environments include:
  • Nodes are now added dynamically to a nodeset via the mmaddnode command when the communication protocol is TCP/IP and a quorum exists for the nodeset.
  • The mmlsconfig command is now available to list the configuration data for a GPFS nodeset.
  • The mmstartup command is now available to start the GPFS daemons on one or more nodes.
  • Support for single-node quorum in a two node nodeset.
