On Tuesday, 2/7/12, we are planning to do some maintenance on PDSF. If all goes well users should not notice any impact on their work, however, we do want to announce it just in case there are unexpected problems.
One purpose of the maintenance is to add some new filesystem managers. This should help alleviate some of the sluggishness that some of you have noticed recently.

In conjunction with maintenance on many NERSC systems PDSF will be down on July 13 from 8am-8pm Pacific Daylight Time. During the maintenance there will be no access to PDSF at all. A number of issues will be addressed including the upgrade of /common, GPFS and kernel upgrades, and work on some of the PDSF hardware.
As usual we will set the io resource limits to zero 12 hours before the maintenance so that new jobs using them will not start. Running jobs will be allowed to continue and any jobs still running when the maintenance starts will be terminated. When the maintenance is done the io limits will be reset to their usual values.

In conjunction with the previously announced NERSC downtime for network maintenance on Wednesday, June 1, PDSF will be down from 8am-3pm. The main purpose of this downtime will be to migrate the home filesystem to new hardware. All io resources will be set to zero 12 hours before the downtime begins.
