Reformatting $SCRATCH2 file system next Thursday June 16th -- Files DELETED
June 10, 2011 by Helen He | 0 Comments
Next Thursday, June 16th, we will be reformatting the $SCRATCH2 file system on Hopper and all files will be DELETED. Thank you to the many users who have already moved files out of $SCRATCH2. If you haven't moved your data, please make sure to back up it up to HPSS or move it to the $SCRATCH file system.
Because the reformat will occur in less than a week and we want to make sure important user data is not lost, NERSC will take a snapshot (backup) of the remaining data in $SCRATCH2 between now and Thursday. If you write to the $SCRATCH2 file system after we take the snapshot though, your data will not be saved. We suggest you not use the $SCRATCH2 file system until after the reformatting June 16th.

June 8, 2011 by Helen He | 0 Comments
We will me doing some dedicated I/O testing on the $SCRATCH2 file system for a few hours late on Thursday (tomorrow, June 9) night from 10pm-1am Pacific Time. This is to test a software patch intended to improve I/O performance on Hopper. We'd like to do the testing on as clean a file system as possible and would like to request your help and ask you to move data from $SCRATCH2 to $SCRATCH and launch jobs from $SCRATCH until further notice.
