The shared root file system is enabled by default

June 4, 2014 (0 Comments)

During today's maintenance, the shared root file system is enabled by default. You no longer need to explicitly set the environment variable, CRAY_ROOTFS, to DSL in your job scripts to run shared library applications on Edison compute nodes from now on. We do not expect any observable performance impact to the statically built applications, However, if you encounter any problems with this change, please report to consult at nersc dot gov. You can overwrite this system default by doing

setenv CRAY_ROOTFS INITRAMFS    (for csh/tcsh)
export CRAY_ROOTFS=INITRAMFS    (for bash/ksh)
