Purging of /global/scratch
April 14, 2011 by Francesca Verdier (0 Comments)
The "global scratch" file system (/global/scratch) is currently 72% full. We will soon implement a purge policy on global scratch. This email is only the first announcement; THERE WILL BE ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS BEFORE WE ACTUALLY BEGIN REMOVING USER FILES.
Global scratch is mounted on many NERSC systems. It is the primary scratch file system for Carver and Euclid. It's total capacity is about 870TB, and it has reached 72% full in a little over a year of availability.
Beginning in May, we will begin regularly removing old files from global scratch. Our current plan is to purge all files that have not been accessed in over 12 weeks. This purge will occur weekly.
NERSC scratch file systems are not intended for long-term storage. HPSS is more appropriate for this type of storage. Note that projects may request space in the project file system (/project), which will not be purged.
