Overview

The "magellan" and "mag_serial" batch queues will be drained and disabled at 08:00, Thursday, December 1. Any jobs left in those queues will be discarded.

The "mag_xlmem" queue, which provides shared access to a single node that has 32 cores and 1TB of memory, will be drained and disabled at 08:00, Tuesday, November 29. Any jobs left in the queue will be discarded. This queue will be replaced by a new queue named "reg_xlmem", which will be available by 17:00 Tuesday November 29.

Following these actions, so-called "cloud repos" (which account for usage in the magellan queues) will no longer be useable.  Note that balances remaining in cloud repos will not be transferred to MPP repos.

The "westmere" queue, which currently targets 40 nodes that contain Westmere processors (rather than the Nehalem processors found in the rest of Carver), will be drained and disabled at 08:00, Monday, November 28. Any jobs left in the queue will be discarded. The 40 Westmere nodes will be reconfigured to service the "serial" queue; at that point a total of 80 Westmere nodes (960 cores) will be serving Carver serial jobs. The Carver serial queue will remain available during this change.

Once the above queue changes have been made, NERSC will begin the process of integrating Magellan hardware into Carver. We expect to have this Carver expansion complete by the start of Allocation Year 2012 (January 10, 2012).
