Question 24: Comments about our online tutorials, suggested improvements and other ideas for
training
These are the complete responses to this question, with a few minor edits.
- I enjoy your seminars
- See # 16 [Some of your web page documentation (examples) illustrating the use of the multiple
processor environment need (or did at one time) to be completed. Without cleaning up the
environment upon termination, code run interactively using more than one processor can causes unix
to behave weirdly to the "uninitiated".]
- Good.
- see #16 [I have used the online tutorials for running batch and the cft77
to f90 changeover. I did sometimes find these confusing, but that
is probably do more to my inexperience in using that sort of thing
than a problem with the tutorials.]
- good on-line tutorials
... and maybe some test problems or so to practice
- Have an interactive online training program.
Give users batch templates.
- Our group used the SP2 machine at Cornell Theory Center before.
When we started at NERSC, we used the info from both NERSC and Cornell TC.
- Use advanced collaboration tools (both DOE and commerical).
RealPlayer is an example that would improve this area.
- F90 tutorial seemed very good.
- Perhaps it's the nature of the beast, but the training classes
I went to did not offer much beyond what the online tutorials
and documentation already gave me.
The value of training classes is often the ability to ask
specific questions of the experts. Since the experts are
already available by email, face to face training may not
be necessary.
The one thing that would be missed would be learning from others
questions. Maintaining an online FAQs, including the questions
that come up in training sessions would be valuable.
- They seldom answer the questions one really wants answered.
- Haven't made use of the online tutorials.
- Didn't know about 'em.
- No strong opinions.
