Recommendations

The workshop developed a broad set of recommendations in response to the above findings. In each case, the recommendations are proposed to enhance the utility of high performance computing systems through the advance of robust environments. The recommendations were strongly influenced by current trends and market forces in commercial computing. These recommendations are organized into two sets. The first establishes what needs to be achieved to make HPC systems technology competitive and capable of pushing the boundaries of performance. The second set of recommendations are a set of broad activities that together will bring about accomplishment of the first set. From the outset, it is clear that progress towards these goals will require the active cooperation of the hardware and software industry, academic research groups, and strong leadership from appropriate government entities.
