Major Findings

Many issues related to the prevailing conditions and their causes were revealed by the nine working groups comprising this workshop. Their details may be found in the individual working group reports. Presented here are those findings which dominate the current state of HPC system software and the future of HPC in general. In many cases, individual findings reflect the conclusions of a number of working groups and in certain cases findings are derived from a truly global consensus. While the focus issues described in the previous section provided a framework for discussions, the major findings below are organized for convenience in terms of cause and effect. The first set of findings describes the achievements over the first half of the HPCC program. The second set of findings identifies the critical challenges that are facing the HPC community. And the third set of findings uncovers some of the driving factors that contribute to the causes of the problems.
