    Greetings DaVinci Users,

As many of you have noticed, we have had several scheduled
maintenance periods on DaVinci since the beginning of the
year. These have all been a result of our efforts to upgrade
the operating system from SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (sles9)
to sles10. Sles10 has been available for almost two years, and
several projects have requested software which is only available
    under sles10.

Unfortunately, we have encountered many serious problems with
this upgrade. Some of these are due to the unique SGI ccNuma
architecture, and some are due to NERSC's particular disk
configuration. We are working closely with SGI to complete
this upgrade. There are currently two more scheduled outages,
on Wednesday March 12 and Wednesday March 19. Both of these
outages will be from 07:00 - 17:00, Pacific Time. All scheduled
outages are announced at least seven days in advance on the
NERSC "Message of the Day" web page located at:

    http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/status/motd.php

We appreciate your patience during this time.
