Dear NERSC Users, Bassi is up and running AIX 5.3 with the NERSC benchmark codes achieving performance very similar to that measured under AIX 5.2. Over the last few days, node b0408 was found to have degraded memory bandwidth and removed from the system, and GPFS was tuned to restore pre-migration performance in /scratch. * IPM PERFORMANCE UTILITY The NERSC IPM performance utility is available again on Bassi. IPM was recompiled under AIX 5.3 to fix hangs in MPI_init reported by some users. * IBM HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING TOOLKIT (IHPCT) The IBM High Performance Computing Toolkit has been installed on Bassi in the "ihpct" module. The software is installed "as-is" as provided by IBM. Please report problems with the software to consult_at_nersc_dot_gov. From the README file: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The IBM High Performance Computing Toolkit is a collection of tools and libraries which make it easy to collect performance data from a program. It provides libraries to to gather data from programs parallelized with OpenMP, SHMEM and MPI. It allows you to collect data from the hardware performance counters too. With SiGMA a tool is provided which is able to show the utilisation of the memory with a very fine granularity. The PeekPerf GUI is able to show the collected data within one window. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- After loading the module, you can use "hpmcount -l" and "hpmcount -c" to see all the POWER5 counters, events, and groups. See the following website for more information: http://www.research.ibm.com/actc/ Regards, Richard Gerber
