Dear NERSC Users: In the interest of providing immediate access to NERSC users, Seaborg is being returned to service in a known degraded state. While IBM and NERSC staff continue to work on a high severity I/O performance problem, NERSC users are being provided access to the system. The system migration to AIX 5.2 is now successfully complete. While there were unforeseen difficulties, the only remaining issue is related to large amounts of I/O on the filesystems. Smaller jobs, and jobs with very little I/O, will most likely not see any performance issues. Resolving the aggregate I/O performance problem remains a number one priority item for NERSC. NERSC staff continue to work aggressively, around the clock, with IBM to resolve this problem. Thank you for your patience while we work with IBM to restore full production service. If you encounter any problems, have any questions or require further assistance, please contact the NERSC consulting staff at consult@nersc.gov. Jim Craw HERSC Computational Systems Group Leader
