ERCAP Performance Data

Greetings SP Users,

The yearly process to make NERSC allocations requests (ERCAP)
begins June 30.

As part of the process PIs must report performance data for
codes that are already running on Seaborg. Performance metrics must
be quoted for the entire application, not just computational kernels,
and must have been measured on Seaborg.

NERSC provides a negligible overhead, easy-to-use, utility for this
purpose. This utility, called "poe+", can be simply incorporated into
batch scripts without recompiling your code. NERSC urges all users to
include poe+ in their batch scripts.

Please see the following web page for information about poe+:

http://www.nersc.gov/nusers/resources/software/ibm/hpmcount/poe+.php

The optional poe+ "-mpi" flag provides a report detailing MPI
performance. This option introduces an small overhead, which for most
applications will be negligible. NERSC recommends making a few runs with
the the "-mpi" option in order to profile the communication in a
parallel code.

If you have questions please contact us at consult@nersc.gov.

Regards,

David Skinner
