Greetings NERSC Users,

IDL 6.1 Beta has been installed on Seaborg and Escher. This is a pre-release
version of the next IDL release, expected some time this summer. To access it
on either machine, type:

   module load idl/6.1beta

and then execute normally. Note that the built-in help facility (using the "?"
command) only provides access to IDL 6.0 documentation. The 6.1 Beta
documentation can be found, on either system, here:

   $IDL_DIR/BetaDocs/whatsnew.pdf

The above file can be viewed using the "acroread" command, or copied to the
users local machine and viewed there.

Please note that since this is "beta" software, NERSC would appreciate prompt
reporting of any problems, which will be relayed to the vendor. Also, users
of this software must abide by the following restrictions:

User agrees not to use the Beta Software for any purpose other than:
   (i) the testing of the Beta Software, and (if applicable)
(ii) the development of a product, which is designed to operate with the RSI
Beta Software without violating RSI's intellectual property rights.
User is expressly prohibited under this Agreement from commercially
distributing any product developed using the Beta Software. Disclosure of Beta
Software capabilities, features or limitations to third parties during the
pre-release period prior to commercial availability of the Beta Software is
prohibited.

Please report all problems to consult@nersc.gov.
