Dear NERSC Users, This is a reminder about changes to the SSH services at NERSC that will go into effect on 10/01/2003. Currently Secure Shell (SSH) must be used for connecting to NERSC computers (http://hpcf.nersc.gov/help/access/). There are two versions of the SSH protocol available: an older version 1 (v1) and a more secure version 2 (v2). At this point NERSC supports both protocol versions, but to improve security, support for version 1 of the SSH protocol will be discontinued at the end of FY 2003. Starting October 1st 2003, all connections to NERSC systems will need to be made via SSHv2. SSHv1 connections will no longer be accepted. Details of the transition as well as possible problems you might encounter and ways of recovery are outlined in: http://hpcf.nersc.gov/help/access/ssh1to2_user.html. Regards, Iwona Sakrejda
