Abstract
--------
NERSC's remaining Cray computers (the T3E and the PVP cluster) are scheduled for
retirement on October 1, 2002. This marks the first time in 24 years that NERSC
will have no Cray hardware. Users are now adapting to the IBM SP environment,
which differs significantly from the familiar Cray environment.

This talk is intended for Cray users who are considering the issues involved in
migrating their computations to the IBM SP. In particular, the following topics
will be covered:

Differences in the user environment (Unix commands, file systems, etc.)
Differences in the programming environment (compilers, debuggers, etc.)
Differences in the execution environment (batch system, I/O, etc.)
Differences in performance (profiling, optimization, etc.)

Please note that this tutorial will NOT cover the topic of converting (possibly
shared-memory parallel) vector applications into explicit message-passing (MPI)
applications. However, there will some discussion of the various programming
models on the IBM SP, including an overview of converting Cray autotasking to
OpenMP.

In addition, there will be a brief discussion about NERSC's plans to support
Cray file formats on the IBM machine; this is important to users who have
existing Cray data that needs to be processed on the IBM.

This lecture may be presented more than once. The first presentation will be
via the Access Grid and an ESNet Audio Conference. A subsequent presentation
will be via ESNET Video and Audio Conferencing, if demand exists.

Local attendees are welcome, but seating is limited. For further details, see
