Important NERSC changes

Dear NERSC users,

With the beginning of the new FY 2002 fiscal year and allocation cycle
on October 1, 2001, a number of changes will take place that could
affect you. These changes are documented at this web site:

        http://hpcf.nersc.gov/news/announcements/oct1.html

This year, the changes are few. The most critical component in the above
announcement is the operations schedule for the night of September 30, 2001.
In brief, all production systems will be brought down, and all running jobs
will be killed. The systems will resume normal operations early in the
morning of October 1, 2001. This will allow NERSC to complete its end-of-
fiscal-year accounting for FY 2001.

Another potentially significant change is that interactive sequential
processes on the IBM SP will be limited to 20 minutes of CPU time.

Please see the above web page for details of the fiscal year changeover,
as well as some other minor system changes.

Best regards,

David Turner
