PVP Update

Greetings NERSC PVP User,

Today, Thursday August 23, at 16:00 PDT, the PVP cluster will be taken
down. Running batch jobs will be checkpointed, and then restarted when
the cluster is returned to service. Interactive jobs will be terminated.

The purpose of this downtime is to install an additional four SV1 processors
into Killeen. This will bring its processor count to 20; the batch machines
will remain unchanged with 24 processors. This will improve interactive
response for all users, as well as provide slightly more batch capability
for the limited batch jobs that are run on Killeen.

Also, we recently increased the batch time limits from 120 hours to 180 hours
for the st_80 and st_256 queues on all three machines. Note that the time
limit for mt_512 queue remains at 120 hours on Bhaskara and Seymour (this
queue is not present on Killeen). We intend on leaving these limits in place
until October 1, when we typically review all such system limits.

As always, I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the
configuration and management of the PVP cluster.

Best regards,

David Turner
