new NERSC Information Management release

Dear NERSC users,

This Wednesday, June 6, the NERSC Information Management (NIM) web
interface was upgraded to the latest release. The purpose of this
email is to explain the major changes in NIM, which we hope will
improve its ease of use.

This latest version of NIM includes access to NERSC's Allocation
Request Form (known as ERCAP - the Energy Research Computing
Allocations Process). PIs and Account Managers have received email
with the FY 2002 call for allocation requests.

In addition to integrating ERCAP functionality and responding to user
suggestions, the new NIM interface had several broader goals, including

  - more space for results, particularly wide lists;
  - simplification and compaction of menu items;
  - consolidation of information in a smaller number of frames;
  - direct navigation from item name links in lists and displays;
  - "cursor over" explanation of column and row labels.

When you log onto NIM, you will note that the menu frame has shrunk and
now occupies just a quarter of the top frame. The adjacent "Query"
frame usually contains a standard set of text boxes and pull down menus
to facilitate searching for items of interest. The bottom "Results"
frame now occupies the entire width of the browser window.

The small menu frame has been reduced to a small set of pulldown
selection lists, links, and a "Quicksearch" box to do direct searches
for individual repository or login names. Several displays in the old
NIM interface have now been combined into two basic displays for
Repositories and Users.

If you don't know your NIM password, please conatct the Account
Support group at support@nersc.gov, 1-800-66-NERSC menu 2, or
1-510-486-8612.

If you experience any problems using the new NIM, please contact a
consultant at consult@nersc.gov, 1-800-66-NERSC menu 3, or
1-510-486-8611.

Sincerely,
