Killeen file system work

Greetings NERSC PVP User,

This Thursday, April 5, the entire PVP cluster will be taken down
at 16:00 PDT to expand the /tmp file system on Killeen. This note
provides additional information.

Currently, Killeen has about 180GB of /tmp space; Bhaskara and Seymour
have about double that amount. This week's changes will bring Killeen
more in line with the other two machines.

It will not be possible to checkpoint running batch jobs on Killeen
during the file system reconfiguration. Therefore, we are currently
draining the batch queues on Killeen. Users can expect to see jobs
queued in Killeen's NQS queues during this time. You will also notice
higher than normal idle time on Killeen as we approach Thursday. Batch
jobs on Bhaskara and Seymour should checkpoint and restart normally
during Thursday's downtime.

We will make every effort to preserve files left in /tmp on Killeen.
However, this will require all user directories and files to be moved
to other file systems (or HPSS) before the reconfiguration, and then
restored after the work is complete. This can be a very time-consuming
and error-prone operation. Therefore, we would like to request that all
users make a sincere effort to "clean up" /tmp before Thursday. This
would include moving files to $HOME or HPSS, removing files that are
already saved elsewhere, compressing files that need to remain in /tmp, etc.

YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
