ACCOMMODATIONS

All participants desiring accommodations should make their own arrangements. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Hotel Durant. Please phone the hotel directly to make reservations. The special rates quoted below include a continental breakfast, but not tax or gratuity. The cut-off date for reserving rooms is January 22, 1997. After this date, rooms may not be available. To ensure receiving the special rate, be sure to mention the ERSUG Meeting when making your reservation.

$79.00 per night, single occupancy, plus 12% tax

The Hotel Durant is adjacent to U.C. Berkeley and close to many shops and restaurants. It is an older hotel with refurbished lobby and sleeping rooms.

TRANSPORTATION

The Bay Area Shuttle (415-873-7771), offers service from both the San Francisco and Oakland International Airports to Berkeley. Current one-way prices per person are: $10.00 from the Oakland and the San Francisco Airports. Reservations are required for this service. Other shuttle service providers include: Airport Connection (415-885-2666) and BayPorter Express (415-467-1800) Rental cars are available at both the Oakland and San Francisco airports from all national rental agencies. Driving time to Berkeley is approximately one hour from San Francisco and 45 minutes from Oakland depending on time of day and traffic congestion. Parking is available at the hotel at $5.00/night. Shuttle Service to Conference: Because parking at the Laboratory is difficult, a complimentary shuttle from the Hotel Durant to the Lab is planned. The bus will leave from the front of the hotel at 8:30 each morning and return after the end of the meeting each day.

WEATHER

In February the weather is usually in the high 50's Fahrenheit (10's Celsius) during the day and will drop 10oF/6oC in the evenings. Rain is common this time of year. Comfortable clothing is suggested, and you should bring a warm jacket or raincoat. Walking shoes are essential. San Francisco is usually windy and about 5oF /3oC cooler than Berkeley.
