Michael Barad ( mfbarad@ucdavis.edu ) - Civil and Environmental Engineering (3rd year PhD at UC Davis)

Research Interests

My field of interest is the numerical study of environmental transport in fluid systems. My case study is the San Francisco Bay for which I have already collected a large validation dataset. My model is based on the variable density incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in 3-D with embedded boundaries. I am very interested in the numerical solution of elliptic and hyperbolic PDE's. I am also very interested in Adaptive Mesh Refinement. I am collaborating with the Applied Numerical Algorithms Group at LBL and am using their EBChombo library as a foundation.

Platform and Coding Experiences

OS: I'm Windows and Linux friendly.

Programming Languages: I have a strong Fortran 77/90/95 background and am still learning C++. I am currently coding mostly in C++.

Parallel Experience: I have written a few basic MPI codes with Fortran 90. I have played around with parallel I/O using the HDF5 libraries.

Miscellaneous Info

I'm an intercampus exchange graduate student from UC Davis. I live in Albany and work mostly at home. The following two sites have more info about me: http://edl.engr.ucdavis.edu/Users/Barad/barad.html, http://www.krellinst.org/csgf/fellows/listing/csgf.cgi?-w+barad
